I had the absolute privilege and delight to attend the final Showcase Session of Marshall Music last Wednesday evening.
Marshall Music ran a competition for several weeks, namely ‘Marshall Music Showcase Sessions’ – all the bands and artists that took to the stage were phenomenal. Fifteen emerging artists were chosen to perform at Cafe Roux during the months of August and September, all competing for R10 000 worth of sponsored prizes as well for their own featured night at one of South Africa’s hottest acoustic venues. The two finalists that were chosen were none other than
I was excited to see what lay in store this evening as they each took to the stage to do a set.
Grace was first up and as always just brought such a beautiful stage presence. Grace is vocally trained and plays guitar and piano. Her voice has a rich husky quality to it. Her genre is pop/rock and she is a singer/songwriter. I have watched Grace a couple of times and get lost in her beautiful sound. Her songs are funky and fun and I wouldn’t expect anything less, as Grace is just that. Her voice and beauty have a hypnotic ability – all eyes were riveted on her and her alone. Here is a link to some of her music. Take a listen -you will be surprised at the maturity of her voice for someone so young.

Next up was Jono Grayson – it was the first time I was watching Jono perform. Jono has a certain smile and charm that lights up a room and when he sang it was like watching a younger version of Michael Buble. He has a jazzy touch to his sound and it is light hearted and definitely appealing to the younger generation. Jono had a huge fan base present and lots of cheering took place as he sang to his heart’s content.

I admire Marshall Music for their involvement in projects like this. They can truly be admired for their commitment to the music industry. On Saturday evening, I attended the School of Rock and was delighted to hear that Marshall Music had stepped in and provided the sound for the evening. The sound was superb as the young people blew us away with their talent. To find out more about Marshall Music, check them out on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/marshallcape/timeline
